INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF GEMOLOGY — ONGOING: The International School of Gemology is now offering several online gemology education courses in order for students to become registered gemologists. THE NEWARK MUSEUM — NOW THROUGH AUGUST 5:
The Art of Glass: From Galle to Chilhuly, an exhibition that demonstrates the evolution of studio glass, is now on display at the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey. For more information visit www.newarkmuseum.org.

THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY —
NOW THROUGH AUGUST 19:
The Gold exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, New York. The exhibit will showcase a wide selection of objects from the geology and cultural anthropology departments of museums and private collections. The exhibit will focus on the scientific and cultural impact behind the rare element. Gold will be examined through ancient currencies, displays on the Gold Rush of the American West, and through contemporary pop culture. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will be able to physically explore the unique properties of gold and may walk through a room covered in an ounce of flattened gold, guess the amount of gold ore found in a boulder, or try their hand at panning for it. THOMAS MANN — NOW THROUGH AUG. 31: The Storm Cycle exhibit invites visitors into the mind of Thomas Mann, an artist whose hometown was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Known for his use of animated metal work and industrialized romantic imagery, Mann creates a 21 panel narrative of life and death that emcompasses the emotional journey of New Orleans through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Storm Cycle will make its way through The Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts through June 17, and the Blue Spiral Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina from July 5-August 31. THE BOSTON MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS — NOW THROUGH MARCH 5, 2008: Jewelry by Artists: The Daphne Farago Collection exhibits over 150 objects of 20th century studio jewelry at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. The collection includes works of jewelry by leading American and European artists including Robert Ebendorf, Mary Lee Hu, Sam Kramer, Man Ray, Pablo Picasso, Wendy Ramshaw, Art Smith, and others in a dramatic display of various media and sculptural forms. MANUFACTURING JEWELERS & SUPPLIERS OF AMERICA — JUNE 25: The MJSA Education Foundation Golf Tournament at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut. Funds raised will benefit the development of educational programs designed to support and advance the jewelry industry. Last year over $11,000 was raised after 232 golfers teed off. This year, the 90-acre twin course tournament fee is $235 per player. The tournament is followed by dinner and a prize presentations. COLORED STONE — AUGUST 1: The submission deadline for the 2008 Gemmys competition, sponsored by Colored Stone and Lapidary Journal. The contest is open to any bead artist; entries must be submitted by the designer/maker, or in cases of collaborative work, the principal designer/maker. All entries must be cut, whether of traditional or original design — drawings or other design renderings are not acceptable — and must be submitted as slides or digital images. Judging criteria is based on the following: visual appeal and impact; design; execution; and for functional objects (including gems for jewelry use): functionality. The competition is broken down into the following categories: faceted gems; cabochon gems; specially cut gems; gem objects; and artists on the horizon (beginner gem cutters). AUSTRALIAN OPAL EXHIBITION INC. — AUGUST 2-3: The 6th Annual Australian Opal Exhibition at the Gold Coast International Hotel in Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia. This exhibition is a trade-only show that will provide retailers and wholesalers with the opportunity to include opal in their line of merchandise or expand their line of stock and supply. The exhibit will feature displays from collectors pieces to black, boulder, light, crystal, rough, and rub opal findings. MANUFACTURING JEWELERS & SUPPLIERS OF AMERICA — APRIL 13-15: The 2008 MJSA EXPO at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York, New York. EXPO New York is a trade-only show spotlighting jewelry manufacturing, supplies, machinery, components, services, and finished product. COLORED STONE — AUGUST 1: The submission deadline for the 2008 Gemmys competition, sponsored by Colored Stone and Lapidary Journal. The contest is open to any bead artist; entries must be submitted by the designer/maker, or in cases of collaborative work, the principal designer/maker. All entries must be cut, whether of traditional or original design — drawings or other design renderings are not acceptable — and must be submitted as slides or digital images. Judging criteria is based on the following: visual appeal and impact; design; execution; and for functional objects (including gems for jewelry use): functionality. The competition is broken down into the following categories: faceted gems; cabochon gems; specially cut gems; gem objects; and artists on the horizon (beginner gem cutters). THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY — NOW THROUGH AUG. 19: The Gold exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, New York. The exhibit will showcase a wide selection of objects from the geology and cultural anthropology departments of museums and private collections. The exhibit will focus on the scientific and cultural impact behind the rare element. Gold will be examined through ancient currencies, displays on the Gold Rush of the American West, and through contemporary pop culture. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will be able to physically explore the unique properties of gold and may walk through a room covered in an ounce of flattened gold, guess the amount of gold ore found in a boulder, or try their hand at panning for it. THOMAS MANN — NOW THROUGH AUG. 31: The Storm Cycle exhibit invites visitors into the mind of Thomas Mann, an artist whose hometown was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Known for his use of animated metal work and industrialized romantic imagery, Mann creates a 21 panel narrative of life and death that emcompasses the emotional journey of New Orleans through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. MANUFACTURING JEWELERS & SUPPLIERS OF AMERICA — JUNE 25: The MJSA Education Foundation Golf Tournament at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut. Funds raised will benefit the development of educational programs designed to support and advance the jewelry industry. Last year over $11,000 was raised after 232 golfers teed off. This year, the 90-acre twin course tournament fee is $235 per player. The tournament is followed by dinner and a prize presentations.
